MEDICINE HAT, AB – More playground equipment is being removed from the Muir Crescent playground for safety reasons.

“Beginning Thursday, August 5, additional playground attachments, including the slide, roller and tube, will be removed. These pieces are not meeting safety code standards and must be removed to ensure children’s safety when playing on the structure,” reads a release from the City of Medicine Hat.

The city says once these pieces are removed, playground inspectors will assess the remaining structure and determine if railings that meet current standards can be added.

The remaining pieces in the playground will also be repainted.

People are asked to use caution in these areas and remain a safe distance away from workers and equipment.

Last week the swing set was removed from the playground.

The city encourages families to visit other parks and playgrounds located on Park Crescent or Heights Park.

Bridges and boardwalks

Beginning Monday contractors will be replacing existing bridges/boardwalks within the city’s parks and recreation trail system.

Work on two small bridges in Saamis Coulee and a boardwalk on Northwest Riverside Trail is expected to last three months

Construction, landscape restoration and paving activities will follow in August and continue through to October.

At the same time, the city says substantial rehabilitation will also be completed on the Kin Coulee Stairs, as well as replacement of the Ajax Coulee Boardwalk, Saratoga Boardwalk and McCutcheon Trail Boardwalk.
