Safety concerns

Swing set to be removed from Muir Crescent playground

Jul 29, 2021 | 12:13 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – After being closed for safety inspection in the spring, some of the playground equipment at Muir Crescent NW will be removed.

The city says the playground’s swing set will be removed due to “safety concerns regarding the framing, the footing and lack of appropriate fall protection.”

The removal will start today.

The safety assessment was done by certified playground inspectors and the rest of the structure will remain closed as assessments continue.

“We recognize that families may be disappointed by the removal of the swings, but safety is our number one priority,” said Dave Genio, manager of parks. “We encourage families to visit the playground located on Mitchell Crescent NW at Park Crescent NW or at the park along 9th Street NE and Division Ave N.”

Pavement crack sealing

City crews will begin crack sealing maintenance on Aug. 3 on various paved roads throughout Medicine Hat. The work is expected to last up to four weeks, weather dependent.

This is a preventative maintenance program that will extend the service life of a road.

Motorists and pedestrians are reminded to obey all traffic signs and flag persons and drive safely around work crews.
