Two males charged

No headlights leads to drug charges

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Two males are facing drug charges after an early morning investigation that began when an officer spotted a vehicle being driven without headlights.

According to Medicine Hat Police Service, the vehicle was seen on Bridge Street at about 1:30 a.m. on May 4. The officer stopped the vehicle, and the driver then produced a license belonging to someone else.

The officer became suspicious and began to detain the suspect for obstruction of a peace officer. The driver attempted to flee on foot and resisted arrested when caught. Police found two ounces of cocaine, scales and cash during a search of the vehicle.

Upon finding the driver’s true identity officers learned he had outstanding warrants from a 2017 violent firearms event in Calgary.

The driver of the vehicle, 33, faces charges of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of the proceeds of crime, breach of release order and resisting arrest. The male passenger, 26, is charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime. Both remain in custody and are awaiting bail hearings.
