MHPS: Discussions taking place on potential charges from ‘Freedom’ rally
MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat police say discussions are taking place between the department, Alberta Health Services and provincial prosecutors about any potential charges to be laid following a weekend anti-lockdown rally in Medicine Hat.
The April 25 rally at a local restaurant featured well-known anti-masker Chris Sky, also known as Chris Saccoccia. Sky is travelling across the country hosting “Freedom Convoy” rallies. He was at the Medicine Hat rally and on Tuesday was arrested in Thunder Bay. He faces charges of breach of undertaking and he was also charged under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act.
Responding to a Twitter user questioning why Sky was not charged in Medicine Hat, MHPS states “We share your concern RE rise in COVID cases in our community. While there was no visible enforcement at rally MHPS officers were present & are discussing w/AHS & provincial prosecutors what if/any charges are applicable.”
