COVID-19 update: 1,100 new cases confirmed in preliminary update

EDMONTON, AB- In a preliminary update provided Friday, the province confirmed 1,100 new cases of COVID-19 across the province.

The number of variants of concern continues to rise. The province said Thursday. 32.6 per cent of all active cases are listed as variants.

The province currently has 2,820 active cases variants of concern, 223 cases are in the South Zone

Taking to Twitter Friday, Dr, Deena Hinshaw confirmed the provincial positivity rate climbed to 8 percent.

Hospitalizations remain stable, according to Hinshaw, and 15,000 doses of the vaccine were administered on April 1.

In total, 675,000 doses of the vaccine have been administered so far.

Updated regional numbers were not provided.

As of the last update Thursday, Medicine Hat had 28 active cases, 549 recoveries, and 17 recorded deaths.

Cypress county had nine active cases and 146 recoveries.

A regular update is slated to take place April 5.
