Support from Albertans, says union

Police union says provincial service would cost more for less

Feb 16, 2021 | 11:23 AM

The union representing nearly 4,000 RCMP workers in the province says it would be paying more for less if Alberta moves to a provincial police service.

The National Police Federation also says it would lead to community safety risks and that the majority of Albertans – 81 per cent – are satisfied with the RCMP.

The union has launched a website, Keep Alberta RCMP, that highlights its concerns about the United Conservative desire to create a provincial police service and the benefits of having the RCMP in Alberta.

A provincial police service is one of the recommendations from Alberta’s Fair Deal Panel.
