COVID-19 update: Two new cases in Medicine Hat, hospitalizations continue to trend downward

MEDICINE HAT, AB- Active case numbers and hospitalizations province-wide are continuing on a downward trend. The province of Alberta confirmed 305 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, bringing the total number of active cases to 5,271. That’s 136 cases less than Friday, according to the province.

There are currently 359 people in hospital and 64 in ICU.

A total of 8,070 tests were completed over a 24 hour period. The provincial positivity rate is 3.8 per cent.

In Medicine Hat, there are two new cases of the virus reported today. The city’s total active case count is 15. A total of 510 people have recovered, and there have been 14 deaths attributed to the pandemic.

In Cypress County, there is one active case and 144 recoveries.

Newell County also has one active case. The county has 155 recoveries and two recorded deaths.

The city of Brooks has three active cases, 1349 recoveries and 14 deaths.

The County of Forty Mile has zero active cases, 115 recoveries and two deaths.

The Municipal District of Taber has five active cases, 322 recoveries and six deaths.

On Twitter Saturday, the province’s chief medical officer of health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw advised Albertans to stay safe this long-weekend and to practice the public health measures in effect.
