Lethbridge man charged in city’s first homicide of the year

LETHBRIDGE, AB- One man has been charged in connection with a homicide on the city’s southside on Monday, February 8, 2021.

Jade Trotter, 35, of Lethbridge is charged with second-degree murder and break and enter and has been remanded in custody.

On Monday, LPS responded to a residence in the 1200-block of 4 Avenue South about 1:18 am after a report of someone screaming for help.

At the residence, police discovered the body of a 65-year-old man and deemed the death “suspicious in nature.”

The death was ruled a homicide after the Medical Examiner’s Office in Calgary inspected the body.

Trotter and the victim were known to each other and the accused had attended the victim’s residence.

Police say a dispute occurred, resulting in the death of the victim, Glenn Lofthouse.

A weapon was involved, which police have recovered.

Trotter will appear in court Friday, February 12.
