Medicine Hat man charged in Brooks theft

BROOKS, AB – A Medicine Hat man faces multiple stolen property charges in relation to a break and enter at a storage facility in Brooks.

RCMP responded to a break and enter complaint at the facility on 15th Avenue West in Brooks on Jan. 27. According to RCMP, investigation revealed that seven storage lockers had been broken into and a variety of items were stolen from most lockers.

On Feb. 4, a search warrant was executed on a residential property in Wild Rose Court West in Brooks. Two adult males and two adult females were taken into custody.

Upon searching the residence police recovered most of the stolen property from the storage lockers including hand tools, power tools, electronics, hunting and firearms accessories and more.

RCMP continue to investigate this matter and have determined that some of the recovered property is from other property crimes such as theft from vehicles in recent weeks.

Samual Whitford, 31, was charged with possession of property obtained by crime, trafficking in property obtained by crime and two counts of breach of release order. In addition, Whitford was arrested for outstanding arrest warrants for three breaches of release order and failing to comply with undertaking.

Whitford is scheduled to appear in Medicine Hat Provincial Court on Feb. 9.

The other male and both females arrested were released without charges.

Brooks General Duty members were aided in the investigation by the Brooks General Investigation Section and the Southern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit.
