FLC and YMCA reopen with limited services Monday

Feb 8, 2021 | 3:53 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Family Leisure Centre reopened on Monday for limited services.

The city has been working with user groups and individuals to accommodate training requests.

That includes one-on-one workouts with a fitness instructor.

Recreation Manager for the city Jeff Hoglund says it’s been fairly quiet for personal training so far, but they’ve had some bookings, which is an encouraging sign.

A limited amount of private swimming lessons are also available.

The FLC has been working with sport user groups as well.

Hoglund says youth team-based sports and athletics have been able to book their sessions and practices, following the government’s announcement over the weekend.

“So far things are going fairly well. We currently have several school groups in including the Southern Alberta Hockey Academy has been on the ice already. We have a few fitness bookings with Notre Dame and various other school groups. And we’ve had some private one-on-one lessons and bookings as well.”

Hoglund says youth track and swim clubs have also expressed interest, now that they can use the pool and fitness area.

FLC member passes will remain on hold.
