U-C-P co-founder offers advice to current leader

Brian Jean says Jason Kenney’s fighting style isn’t getting the job done

EDMONTON – Alberta Premier Jason Kenney is getting some unsolicited advice from former leadership rival and United Conservative Party co-founder Brian Jean .

Jean says Kenney’s approach is to fight everyone, and he says that’s not getting the job done for Albertans on key issues like energy.

Jean made the comments in a newspaper column.

Kenney says he hasn’t read Jean’s comments but noted it is easy to be an armchair critic.

Kenney has often employed a combative rhetorical style.

He has accused Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of not fighting hard enough for the cancelled Keystone X-L oil pipeline expansion.

He says U-S President Joe Biden insulted Canada by cancelling Keystone.

And he has called Michigan’s governor “brain-dead” for opposing the Enbridge Line 5 oil pipeline project under the Great Lakes.
