Appointment only blood donor clinic next week

Importance of keeping appointments highlighted as Canadian Blood Services holds clinic in Medicine Hat

MEDICINE HAT — The Canadian Blood Services will be back in Medicine Hat for another two day blood donor clinic next week.

As with many other activities, C-B-S has had to adapt to public health restrictions to conduct their clinics safely.

In addition to extra precautions like increased cleaning and physical distancing, the blood clinics are no longer accepting walk-in donors as a way to observe limits on indoor gatherings.

Donations are now by appointment only, which does restrict the amount of blood that can be collected.

Lisa Castro, the territory manager for Canadian Blood Services says it also places greater importance on people keeping those appointments.

“It’s hard for us to fill those last minute cancellations. Every donation counts so we really are relying on people, when they do book their appointments to follow through and make sure they cancel if they can’t make it so that we can open up that availability to another donor” says Castro.

Appointments can be made on-line at www.blood.ca, or people can download the new giveblood app.

Appointments are also still accepted at 1 – triple 8 – 2DONATE.

The blood donor clinics are at the Medicine Hat Lodge next Monday and Tuesday.
