Coldest Night of the Year walks online

Feb 2, 2021 | 3:00 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Like many events over the last 11 months, The Mustard Seed’s Coldest Night of the Year will be held online this year.

The family-friendly 2, 5, and 10 kilometer walk raises money and awareness for the local charity, which serves hungry, homeless, and hurting people in our community.

Mustard Seed Chaplin and event director Murray Kumm says they have never done a virtual event before.

Teams can sign up online and there will still be a time to pick up your event toque and signage.

So far, there are 6 teams and 19 people signed up.

Kumm would like to see 10-15 teams sign up and there’s still plenty of time.

The Coldest Night of the Year is on Saturday, February 20.

But he says you can complete your walk anywhere this month.

“It’s about raising money for The Mustard Seed, it’s about showing your support for what we do and you can do that anytime. Walk in your neighbourhood, maybe you’re from South Ridge or Crescent Heights and you’ve never had this opportunity to walk there because we’ve always done it in the downtown district.”

He says just over $6,000 has been raised, and their goal is $22,000 locally.

With the online event, Kumm says volunteers aren’t needed, and he’s encouraging volunteers to walk this year.
