YMCA and FLC reviewing province’s new indoor fitness plans

Feb 1, 2021 | 5:09 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Family Leisure Centre and YMCA are reviewing the latest government information on indoor fitness restrictions.

YMCA of Medicine Hat CEO Sharon Hayward says the restrictions the province is easing are fairly minimal at this point.

But they will have one-on-one personal training activities ready to go for next Monday.

The YMCA is working on details on how to schedule appointments and stagger clients in the facility.

They expect to have that announced on Wednesday on their social media accounts.

Hayward says the YMCA has four personal trainers.

“I think the people that are really looking to get back into physical exercise in a facility with a strategic type of plan to help them reach their goals, I think we’ll see a lot of uptake with that. But I think there will still be a lot of people who want to wait until the full facility is open and back to more normal.

Hayward says they will continue to offer online group fitness classes.

The FLC is also reviewing the latest information, according to the city’s recreation manager Jeff Hoglund.

“At this time, City staff are continuing to review the latest information provided by the Government of Alberta and what this means for our recreation facilities, our members, and user groups. We anticipate having more information to share in the coming days and ask for the public’s continued patience during this time. We look forward to welcoming everyone back into our facilities as soon as we’re safely able to do so,” he says.
