Two males taken into custody after police standoff

UPDATE

Two men suspected of stealing a car at gunpoint in Calgary, were arrested in southeast Medicine Hat around 5 a.m. Friday, ending a day that also saw them involved in a hit and run.

City police became involved when they arrived to a multi-vehicle crash at 11th Street and 4th Avenue SE just before 5 p.m. Thursday.

But one of the vehicles had left the scene.

It was later found, abandoned and badly damaged.

Investigators were led to a duplex on Southlands Boulevard SE where it was believed two armed suspects were hiding.

With the help of the tactical unit, the men were taken into custody.

Police are still investigating and more information may follow.

MEDICINE HAT — The tactical unit of the city police service was involved in an incident overnight in the Southridge – Southlands neighborhood.

A male had barricaded himself inside a home and a three-hour standoff ensued.

He was safely taken into custody around 5 a.m. Friday with the help of the tactical unit.

More details on the incident are expected later today from city police.
