LPS has suspect in custody after suspicious package thrown into station

UPDATE: Lethbridge Police Service says a man is in custody and the station is once again open to the public after a suspicious package was tossed into the station on Thursday morning.

Police were alerted about 10:15 a.m. when a male threw a package into the front vestibule of the police station before fleeing on a bicycle. A suspect was apprehended a short time later.

The front lobby area was closed for about three hours Thursday as a precautionary measure to ensure public and staff safety.

Police say no further details will be released at this time as the matter is still under investigation. An update will be provided when available.
