MEDICINE HAT, AB – The 22nd Medicine Hat Police Service’s chief was announced Monday at the city council meeting as MHPS Chief Andy McGrogan gets ready to close out a four-decade tour with the local law enforcement agency.

Calgary Police Service Supt. Mike Worden will replace McGrogan who has served as chief for the past dozen years after the sudden death of his predecessor, Chief Gordon Earl who was in the position for a single year.

Worden, who grew up in the Hat, comes to the city by way of a 25-year career with Calgary police where he served in a number of senior positions.

His first official day on the job is Jan. 4, 2021.

McGrogan is the longest serving police chief since the city’s first, Chief George Marwick, who served in the position from 1889 to 1906.
