MEDICINE HAT, AB- The Alberta College of Pharmacy has ordered a Medicine Hat Pharmacist to receive a four-month suspension and pay a $3000 fine after he was found guilty of stealing Cialis and ACT-Tadalafil without a valid prescription.

The hearing tribunal found Robert Statnyk guilty of unprofessional conduct and noted he failed to demonstrate the ethical conduction and professional judgment required of an Alberta Pharmacist.

The incidents took place between February 13, 2016 and February 19, 2019 on eight separate occasions while Stadnyck worked as a pharmacist at Greg’s Remedy’s Rx.

The hearing decision noted when confronted by the complaints director Statnyck described his memory as being fuzzy and disjointed as he was suffering from a severe mental condition.

“He stated further that he could have obtained a prescription but was embarrassed and emasculated and pills were still in his possession. He thought he could offset costs by not billing hours of his worked time. He also explained his previous issues with the CRA, resulting in criminal conviction, and termination of his long term job, related complaint with the ACP and broken marriage as some of the reason for his irrational decision.” the hearing tribunal decision read.

Aside from the suspension and fine, Stadnyck is prohibited from, being an owner, proprietor or licensee of a pharmacy for three years, and must provide a copy of the hearing tribunal’s decision to any pharmacy he applies for work at for three years.

In 2016 Statnyck was given a two-month suspension and ordered to pay a $5000 fine after he was found negotiating drug purchases and vendor rebates or incentive payments based on the volume of each vendor’s drugs during his time working at the Medicine Hat Co-op.
