MEDICINE HAT, AB- A student has tested positive for COVID-19 at Medicine Hat High School . In a letter posted to their website this afternoon, the Medicine Hat Public School Division said there are three active cases as of today, and the school remains on outbreak status.

“Some students and staff have been directed to self-isolate for a specified period. All close contacts of the positive cases have been identified and are already self-isolating. Our thoughts remain with these individuals and their families, we wish them a safe and speedy recovery,” the letter reads.

The school division notes that at this point all positive cases
identified within the public school division, including Medicine Hat High School have been contracted outside of school.

The school notes they will continue to inform parents and families of each positive case.

“We are working closely with AHS to ensure necessary measures are in place to keep our entire school community safe. It appears that the exposure was limited to a small group of students and staff and we are confident, based on AHS guidance, that staff and students who have not been directed to isolate can attend school safely,” the letter said.

Siblings and family members of close contacts are not required to self-isolate, however, they are asked to monitor for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19.

Custodial services will be conducting enhanced cleaning prior to the start of school tomorrow, according to the MHPSD.
