Saskatchewan doctors say new measures don’t go far enough

Nov 13, 2020 | 4:45 PM

Hundreds of Saskatchewan doctors say the government’s added measures to reverse the rise in COVID-19 don’t go far enough.

Health Minister Paul Merriman announced that, starting Monday, bars and restaurants cannot serve alcohol past 10 p.m., and a mandatory mask rule will be expanded to communities with at least 5,000 people.

He says a recent rise in COVID-19 cases is worrying and the province wants to take targeted measures to avoid overburdening hospitals.

Earlier in the week, hundreds of doctors signed a letter to Premier Scott Moe calling for more action.

They issued another letter today to say the added measures aren’t likely to slow the virus’s spread enough to relieve the health-care system and keep people safe.

The doctors want to see masks become mandatory in all indoor public spaces, regardless of population size.

They also suggest an education campaign to dispel myths around COVID-19.
