Remembrance Day parade planned for November 11

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A Remembrance Day parade is planned for tomorrow morning to honour the fallen, our veterans, and those currently serving.

Organizer John McLeod says it’s another option to gather in a safe way to acknowledge the day.

The parade will go through Redcliff and Medicine Hat.

Vehicles are invited to meet at Co-op Place at 10 am on Wednesday, November 11.

The parade will leave Co-op Place at 10:30 am, circle Redcliff Memorial Park, and stay for two minutes of silence.

The parade will proceed back to Co-op Place until just before the end of Medicine Hat’s ceremony.

Medicine Hat Police will then escort the parade through the city and downtown to Veterans’ Memorial Park.

“Being for social distancing, during the two minutes of silence here in Redcliff, I would think a lot of people may just step out of their vehicle for the two minutes of silence. Being your vehicle is apart we’re still separated but everyone is still together,” McLeod said.

Organizer Ken Goldade says the town of Redcliff is on board, “They like the idea, lots of people are getting interested. We thought we were just going to have a little drive-by or something but I think we’re going to have a little more people than we anticipated which is great. We can’t forget our veterans they’re very important to me.”

Vehicles will go their separate ways after the parade goes past Veterans’ Memorial Park.

Organizers expect the parade to be pretty big with the interest they’ve been seeing.

The Remembrance Day ceremony in Medicine Hat is limited to 100 people in attendance and the area will be cordoned off.

But it will be live-streamed by Cook Southland Funeral Chapel on their Facebook page for residents.

Attendees must wear a mask and be physically distant.
