MEDICINE HAT — It’s going to be a snow day for many after a blizzard slammed Alberta and Saskatchewan over the weekend.

Winds gusting up to 80 kilometers drove the snow – reducing visibilities and forcing closure of Highway 1 from the Alberta border to Swift Current on Sunday afternoon.

Highway 41 south from the Trans Canada highway to Elkwater is closed this morning.

Highway 41 north from Sandy Point crossing at the South Saskatchewan river to Acadia Valley is not recommended.

In Medicine Hat the city police are asking people not to travel unless it’s necessary and to give the city crews a chance to plow the main roads and get things moving again by mid-day.

There’s no school today in the Prairie Rose School division.

Medicine Hat public schools are also closed. The decision made just before 7 a.m. Monday, as several schools are also dealing with power outages.

The city of Medicine Hat is dealing with power outages in Ross Glen and Crestwood areas.

A number of child care centres are also closed today.

They include Pitter Patter
Little owls
Mother Nature’s
Kids play
Nature’s Way
And all 3 Crayon Academy locations including Elm street before and after school care.
