MEDICINE HAT, AB – Dr. Deena Hinshaw has been widely praised for her straightforward yet compassionate manner as she shepherds Alberta through the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now the province’s chief medical officer of health is being honoured by the University of Alberta Palaeontological Society. The school held a naming contest for the 30-foot long cast of a plesiosaur that hangs in the main building.

The winning name was Dr. Deeno Hinshaw.

More than 500 students voted in the contest that ended on April. The runner-up was Indiana Bones.

Back in March, Hinshaw lit up social media when she wore a periodic table dress during one of her daily briefings. The dress had been taken offline last fall by B.C. clothing-maker Smoking Lily, but there was a surge in demand for the dress after Hinshaw’s appearance.
