Prime Minister speaks as House of Commons prepares to vote for wage subsidy bill

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made an address in parliament Saturday as the House of Commons was preparing to vote for bill C-13 , legislation that would enact the emergency wage subsidy.

The bill, according to the prime minister is the largest since World War II.

It is estimated to cost $73 billion.

“We are called upon to support those in need and I know we won’t let them down,” the prime minister said.

The bill would cover 75 per cent of an employee’s wages or $847 per week for employers who have suffered a 15 per cent drop in revenue in March or 30 per cent in April and May,

Businesses of all sizes and sectors, charities, and non-profits are eligible.

The federal wage-subsidy program will be in place for 12 weeks from March 15- June 6 2020.
