MEDICINE HAT, AB – As jurisdictions across the globe hope for the best outcome from the COVID-19 pandemic, they are also preparing to utilize a number of different facilities from arenas and stadiums if things get worse.

Medicine Hat is no different with HALO and Super-T Aviation making their hanger and flight school lodging available to Alberta Health Services for an assessment centre and isolation location for medical workers respectively.

Paul Carolan, HALO CEO, says the offer of support is just part of the ethos of the region’s medical rescue helicopter and its commitment to help the community that has been key in supporting its mission.

“HALO comes from a philosophy of always do the right thing so we believe that people can do more should do more,” said Carolan. “And so we’ve made available up to 14 individual accommodation units in partnership with the Little family and Super-T Aviation to Alberta Health Services.”

Those units would be made available to medical personnel treating COVID-19 patients if there becomes a need for the living units.

“We also made available our large hanger which is both heated and ventilated in case they need a reception centre or assessment centre. It’s quite large and clean and could be used quite readily, available on very short notice if needed,” said Carolan.

As for the helicopter rescue service, Carolan said HALO’s safety protocols pertaining to virus spread were already quite stringent prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and have only tightened since.
