Alberta courthouses to close to the public, with some exceptions

MEDICINE HAT, AB – All provincial courthouses will have restricted access starting on Monday, according to a statement from the head judges from Alberta Court of Appeal, Court of Queen’s Bench and provincial courts.

Members of the general public will not be permitted to enter any courthouse in Alberta, with some exceptions.

Individuals and their counsel will continue to be allowed in the courts along with witnesses, interpreters, victims and approved support staff, individuals who are paying fines, restitution orders, bail who can not access online payments.

Members of the accredited media, those filing court documents and those granted special permission by a justice or judge will also be allowed access.

However, access will be refused to those who have been advised to self-isolate, are doing so as a result of travel or due to contact with individuals with COVID-19 or who are experiencing any symptoms of the virus.
