Salvation Army Kettle Campaign needs help

Dec 20, 2019 | 6:22 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Salvation Army says donations and volunteers are desperately needed if the local Christmas Kettle campaign is to reach its goal.

With the campaign ending on Christmas Eve, Connie Dulle, the business administrator with the Medicine Hat chapter, says the organization is currently at 75 per cent of its $140,000 goal for the year.

“We have 14 locations out right now, but they are down a bit each day, so being this far into the campaign, that starts adding up,” she said.

The Salvation Army says registrations for Christmas hampers are up 10 per cent this year, with some people having to ask for help for the first time.

All Kettle donations stay in Medicine Hat to fund their Christmas and year-round programs and services.

“We offer all kinds of assistance, from utilities to basic assistance,” says Dulle. “Our hot meal program runs Monday to Friday, and our numbers are going up continually. We’re regularly serving over 90 a night. The dollars are really needed to support the community.”

Volunteers are needed to help man kettles in the final days. If you are interested in volunteering, call Kettle Coordinator Ashley Barnes at 587-253-0740.

In addition to making donations at the kettle, you can also make donations at the Salvation Army office, located at 457 Third Street Southeast.

Dulle says she is thankful for the support from Medicine Hat so far this season.
