Echo Dale Regional Park swim lake closed for the remainder of the 2026 season
The Echo Dale Regional Park swim lake will remain closed for the rest of the 2026 season as the City of Medicine Hat awaits the results of an independent review into the June drowning death of a child.
The review is being conducted by the Lifesaving Society of Alberta and NWT Branch, with the city saying it will continue supporting those affected by the tragedy while the process is underway.
Leah Prestayko, the City of Medicine Hat’s managing director of public services, said in a statement, “Our thoughts remain with the family, friends, staff, and community members affected by this heartbreaking loss.”
Prestayko also said, “Keeping the swim lake closed for the remainder of the season is a necessary step as we await the outcome of the independent review.”
