UPDATE: Redcliff Arena open after crash Sunday morning

Mar 4, 2019 | 11:03 AM

REDCLIFF, AB — The Redcliff Arena opened its doors at 12:00 P.M Monday, following an accident where a driver crashed through the arena wall Sunday morning.

The driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries, no one else was injured.

Sergeant Sean Maxwell of the Redcliff RCMP says he believes no one was in the arena at the time of the crash.

“We understand that the community is definitely very interested and very involved in this,” explained Maxwell, “we’re doing our investigation and we’ve got our members working on it.”

He also says that alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

Town of Redcliff Municipal Manager Arlos Crofts says the hole in the wall has been filled in.

While damage to the interior of the arena was minimum, it has been repaired.

“The staff, as well as some contractors, were able to respond to relatively quickly yesterday and get that repaired, so there was minimal downtime for the users,” said Crofts.

There is no structural damage to the arena.

An estimate for the damage will come at a later date.
