Five Mohawks commit to university football

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Football is more than a game at Medicine Hat High School.

Long-time Mohawks head coach Quinn Skelton preaches hard work, discipline, direction, and commitment.

It’s these traits that churn young boys into stand-out men following high school with promising futures ahead.

A great example of that took place inside the Hat High gymnasium Thursday morning.

Lachlan Hardiker and Connor Taylor signed on the dotted line, committing themselves to play for the University of Regina Rams. The two Grade 12 seniors are joining fellow graduates Josh Howe and Justin Maser, who had already committed to the Rams.

Zach Campbell is also committing to play U Sports this fall, teaming up with the University of Alberta Golden Bears in Edmonton.

That’s five Mohawks moving on to play in Canada’s most competitive post-secondary league.

Not since 2002 have the Mohawks sent this many off to play U Sports following graduation, according to head coach Quinn Skelton.

Rams head coach Stephen Bryce and offensive coordinator Mark McConkey were also on hand for the special signing.

CHAT Sports spoke with each player to hear how it feels to take the next steps in their football careers. Plus, Bryce explains why the Rams decided to pursue four members of the Mohawks.
