AURORA, ON — A 59-year-old Ontario man is facing multiple charges of sexual assault against children.

Richard Rose was arrested on December 20, and is charged with four counts of sexual assault and four counts of sexual interference of a person under the age of 16.

York Regional Police released Rose’s photo to Alberta RCMP on December 27, noting he has ties to Rimbey, Alberta, where he worked as a pastor. Rose also has ties to Montreal and Nova Scotia.

The investigation started on December 14, after a now adult victim came forward with information regarding a sexual assault that occurred when he was a young child to York Regional Police. Officers also took over additional incidents reported to the Niagara Regional Police Service that allegedly occurred in the Port Colborne area in 2017.

Rose resided in Markham, Ontario from 1991 to 2015, and had access to children in multiple areas of his life, according to the release. Police say he operated a home daycare out of his home in Markham and managed a hockey team in the city. He also was employed as a pastor at a church in North York.

Rose will be appearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on January 18.
