BROOKS, AB – A wild finish to a wild game at Centennial Regional Arena on Saturday night, as the Brooks Bandits kept their undefeated pre-season record alive against the Okotoks Oilers.

Jakob Lee had a pair of goals for the Bandits, while Landon Quinney served up some late-game heroics to give Brooks a 6-5 win in a back-and-forth affair.

Okotoks went up 1-0 early after a puck took an odd hop off the stanchion onto the stick of Barrett Sheen, who went short side on Max Wright to open the scoring.

Just a few minutes later, a shot from Sheen in the slot was stopped by Wright but he couldn’t handle the rebound, which was picked up by Blake Wells to make it a 2-0 game less than eight minutes in.

The Bandits would get on the board later in the first courtesy of Jordan Di Cicco, who trailed into the attacking zone and ripped a wrist shot home at the top of the left face-off circle.

Brooks was able to find the equalizer with 6:55 left in the frame after an Arnaud Vachon shot was kicked aside, but Lee pounced on the rebound to knot up the game at 2-2 after the first period.

Andranik Armstrong gave Brooks their first lead of the game in the second period, converting on a wild scramble in the crease early in the frame to make it 3-2.

The Bandits would run into some penalty troubles later in the frame however, as Okotoks’ Hoon Kim wired one from the point on the man advantage just over eight minutes into the second to tie the game up again.

Brooks would get revenge with their own power play marker shortly after, with Lee skating off the wall to the left circle and sniping his second of the game with 7:57 left in the period.

Back again on the man advantage, Luke Bast ripped a one-timer from the point to increase the Bandits lead to 5-3 with 26 seconds remaining in the second frame.

Early in the third period, Okotoks’ Ayden Roche-Setoguchi walked to the top of the slot and fired home a power play marker off the crossbar and down to cut the Brooks deficit to 5-4.

Shortly after, a broken play from the Bandits allowed Evan Kaufman to avoid a loose stick and score on Wright to erase the deficit and tie things up once again at 5-5.

But with less than four minutes left in regulation, Bandits captain Nathan Plessis dished the puck to Landon Quinney, who was able to sneak the puck past the goal line for the eventual game-winner.

The Bandits outshot Okotoks 45-31 in the victory, improving their pre-season record to a perfect 3-0.

With three games left in the pre-season, the Bandits travel to Calgary on Tuesday evening for a South Division battle against the Canucks.
