MEDICINE HAT, AB — Medicine Hat Mavericks head coach Andrew Murphy was honoured by the Western Major Baseball League on Wednesday.

The league announced its end of season awards and all-star teams Wednesday afternoon. Murphy, in his first season in the head coach position, was named Coach of the Year for the 2018 season.

Murphy led the team to a 38-9 record this season, enough for first overall in the WMBL.

In addition to the awards, five Mavericks were named to the league’s two All-Star Teams.

Shortstop Carson Johnson, second baseman Nolan Rattai and catcher Colton Wright were all named first team All-Stars.

Jumpei Akanuma was named a second-team All-Star in the starting pitcher category. Outfielder David Salgueiro was also named to the Second Team.

The Mavericks are back in action tonight, hosting the Lethbridge Bulls in the second game of the best-of-five playoff series. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Athletic Park.
