Special Olympics Summer Games legacy fund launched in Medicine Hat
A new permanent endowment fund aims to keep the spirit of the 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games alive by supporting sport, recreation and inclusion initiatives across southeastern Alberta.
The Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta, in partnership with the Medicine Hat Games Society, has launched the Special Olympics National Summer Games Medicine Hat 2026 Legacy Fund.
The fund will invest donations and use the returns to provide annual grants for programs that improve access to sport and recreation, reduce barriers to participation and create opportunities for people of all ages and abilities.
“The Special Olympics Canada Summer Games inspired our region in countless ways, and we have an opportunity to create something that lasts long after we celebrated at the closing ceremonies,” Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta executive director Niki Gray said in a statement.
