Tigers look to kickstart offence against high-scoring Pats

Oct 16, 2026 | 2:58 PM

The Medicine Hat Tigers begin a stretch of games that sees them play nine of their next ten on the road tonight in a rematch of last year’s Eastern Conference Quarter-finals against the Regina Pats.

The Tabbies will also look to get back in the win column following a pair of defeats last weekend to the Edmonton Oil Kings and Victoria Royals to conclude a three-game homestand.

Despite the results, the clubs content with the scoring chances they’ve been generating.

“We had a lot of chances, they just aren’t going in,” said Tigers 20-year-old forward Josh Evaschesen.

“That’s kind of been our problem lately we just aren’t scoring but the chances are there so they’re bound to go in,” he added.

That sentiment has been echoed by Tigers Head Coach and General Manager Willie Desjardins.

“We’re getting tons of chances, if you look at how many chances we get for expected goals we’re by far at the front of the league,” said the Tigers bench boss.

The Tigers lack of execution is most prominent in their powerplay, a powerplay that has been top five in the Western Hockey League in each of the last three seasons but currently sits 21st in the WHL.

The slow-going powerplay will be tested tonight in Regina against a Pats penalty kill that has been perfect on home ice.

Regina enters tonight’s playoff rematch following a 5-2 defeat in Saskatoon on Saturday night.

The Pats are a club expected to contend for the East Division title this year, being led by young phenoms Liam Pue and Maddox Schultz.

Pue is tied with Ellis Mieyette for the team lead in scoring with ten points, while Schultz rides a five-game point streak into the game, with back-to-back multi-point games under his belt.

Beginning tonight, the Pats begin a stretch of seven of ten games at home before they depart for their B.C. Division road trip in mid-November.

Regina has played just two games at home and is 2-0-0-0 inside the Brandt Centre.

The Tigers have won 13 of their last 14 against the Pats, with their lone loss coming in Game 2 of Round 1 of the 2026 WHL Playoffs last spring.

Puck drop from Regina is set for 7:00 p.m. MST with the pre-game show beginning at 6:45 p.m. on WILD 94.5 FM.
