Oct 16, 2026 | 11:10 AM

A 27-year-old Brooks man is in custody after RCMP responded to reports of a person pointing a firearm or imitation firearm at people in the city’s downtown Friday morning.

Brooks RCMP received the complaint at about 8:45 a.m. on Oct. 16, reporting a man frightening people and producing and pointing what appeared to be a firearm near 2nd Street West and 2nd Avenue West.

Multiple officers responded and located the suspect a short distance south of the reported location on 2nd Street West.

Police conducted a high-risk arrest, halting and diverting traffic in the immediate area, resulting in the man being taken into custody without incident.

RCMP say no firearms were found on the suspect, but imitation firearms were located.

The Brooks resident remains in custody as police continue their investigation with charges pending.

RCMP thanked the public for reporting the incident and for their patience while traffic was interrupted during the arrest.
