Leader RCMP are investigating after a red SUV equipped with flashing red and blue lights allegedly attempted to pull over a truck near Lancer, Sask., earlier this week.

Police received a report at approximately 9:15 p.m. on Oct. 13 that an SUV had attempted to conduct a traffic stop near the community, according to a news release issued Thursday.

Investigators determined the driver of a truck pulled onto the shoulder of Highway 32 after seeing emergency lights behind the vehicle.

The SUV stopped behind the truck, but none of its occupants approached the truck.

The truck driver eventually drove away without coming into contact with anyone inside the SUV, Mounties said.

The SUV was described as red with silver rims.

Leader RCMP have determined the vehicle is not associated with any policing agencies or units operating in the area.

As part of the investigation, officers obtained video surveillance showing the SUV travelling in Abbey, Sask.

Police said the footage was recorded before the vehicle’s reported interaction with the truck near Lancer.

Investigators have not released descriptions of the SUV’s occupants, and the vehicle had not been located as of Thursday.

Leader RCMP continue to investigate and are asking anyone who may have encountered the SUV or pulled over after seeing it to contact police.

Police are also reminding the public that impersonating a police officer is illegal.

Anyone who believes they are being followed by a vehicle impersonating police should contact the RCMP immediately, the release said.

Residents are also reminded they can ask RCMP officers to identify themselves during a traffic stop.

Officers’ badges and identification cards should display the same regimental number, and identification cards include a photograph.

Anyone with concerns about the identity of an officer or another individual involved in a stop can contact the RCMP to verify their identity when it is safe to do so.

Anyone with information about the investigation can contact Leader RCMP by calling 310-RCMP.
