Work on the Highway 3 twinning project between Taber and Burdett is progressing toward substantial completion this fall.

Grading and gravel base work are both 93 per cent complete, while paving is 79 per cent finished.

The project includes 54 kilometres of twinned highway, an eight-kilometre bypass around Grassy Lake and 11 bridge-sized structures.

Crews are also completing intersection improvements and widening, along with 10 service roads, roadway lighting, permanent signage, fencing and rest-area pullouts.

The Grassy Lake bypass is currently open to temporary two-way traffic between Range Road 144 and Range Road 131, with an 80-kilometre-per-hour speed limit in place.

Grassy Lake remains accessible through Highway 877.

A Highway 36 detour remains in place between the Highway 36 intersection and Range Road 163 east of Taber until final construction is complete.

Drivers should also expect ongoing speed reductions and occasional short-term closures between Range Road 131 and Range Road 121 as intersection improvements continue.

Range Road 132 between Highway 3 and Township Road 102 remains closed and is expected to reopen in fall 2026.

Crews are now finishing grading, gravel placement and paving on remaining sections, while installing permanent signs and lighting and preparing for cleanup, seeding and other finishing work.
