Top five things to do at the Medicine Hat Public Library in September

Sep 1, 2026 | 3:00 AM

The library isn’t just for reading books. Several different opportunities go beyond that this month.

Here are the top five things to do at the Medicine Hat Public Library in September 2026.

Beyond the Mirror: Body Image and Mental Health, Sept. 8, 6 p.m., Adults

Explore how our relationship with our bodies affects our mental health, and learn to recognize and challenge negative self-talk. Through practical strategies and reflective exercises, the course empowers individuals to build a healthier, more compassionate view of themselves. In partnership with Medicine Hat Family Service and the Recovery College. Register at mhpl.info/register

Paint a Bookend for the Library, Sept. 12, 12-5 p.m., All Ages

Help us add more art to our stacks through this community art project! Paint a bookend inspired by the joy of reading (think your favourite stories or where reading transports you; let your imagination run free!). Bookends will be displayed throughout the library’s stacks. This program is in collaboration with the Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre for Art in Motion.

Tween Night: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Tournament, Sept. 17, 6 p.m., Ages 10-12

Who is the champion of Smash? Let’s settle it once and for all. Compete against your friends (and your favourite video game characters) in this classic chaotic fighting game. Register at mhpl.info/register

Dungeons & Dragons Beginner One-Shot, Sept. 19, 10:30 a.m., Ages 13-19

Great for beginner players; work together to finish the adventure in one sitting! Premade characters and dice will be available to all players. In partnership with Pop Up Parks. Register at mhpl.info/register

Prairie Pride Book Club, Sept. 22, 6:30 p.m., All Ages

In partnership with the Prairie Pride Guild, discuss a book in a relaxed and safe environment. September’s pick is Madeline Miller’s “Circe,” a feminist retelling of Homer’s “The Odyssey.” Copies of the book will be available at the Information Desk starting Sept. 1 while they last. All are welcome!
