Free chronic pain management workshops coming to Medicine Hat

Aug 31, 2026 | 9:57 AM

A free six-week workshop series aimed at helping individuals living with chronic pain manage their symptoms and navigate the challenges of everyday life is coming to Medicine Hat this fall.

The Better Choices, Better Health program is designed to help Albertans living with chronic pain develop practical skills to better manage their health and day-to-day activities.

The workshops will run from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on six consecutive Wednesdays, beginning Sept. 23, at the Royal Canadian Legion at 702 2 St. S.E.

Participants will learn strategies including:

  • Techniques to manage their symptoms.
  • Tips for healthy eating and becoming more active.
  • Strategies for talking with healthcare teams.
  • Methods for dealing with difficult emotions.
  • Options for making everyday tasks easier.
  • Ways to take care of themselves to enjoy a better quality of life.

The workshops are led by trained volunteer leaders, many of whom live with chronic pain themselves.

Organizers say the approach is intended to provide participants with a supportive environment where they can learn from others who understand the challenges associated with ongoing pain and health conditions.

The program focuses on tools and techniques that can be applied across different chronic pain conditions, rather than addressing one specific diagnosis.

Residents can register for the workshops by calling 1-866-795-9709.
