The group organizing the walk Thursday has also been very active in canvassing to keep Alberta from separating from Canada.

A referendum vote will be held in Alberta on Oct. 19, 2026, with 10 questions put to a vote.

Among them is the question: Should Alberta remain a province of Canada, or should the Government of Alberta commence the legal process required under the Canadian Constitution to hold a binding provincial referendum on whether or not Alberta should separate from Canada?
