Fish & Wildlife asking for residents help controlling urban coyote populations
With summer coming to an end and fall around the corner, Alberta Fish and Wildlife is reminding pet owners about coyote safety.
They say leading up to winter, coyotes are searching for food and may try to make a meal out of household pets.
Fish and Wildlife suggests always keeping an eye on your furry friends when outdoors, especially in areas where coyotes may be present, including urban centres.
In recent years, coyote populations have increased, and Fish and Wildlife says they are making efforts to reduce urban populations, but most measures can pose risks to people and their pets; they are now asking residents to help change the animals’ behaviour by making all human encounters unpleasant.
