HALO Air Ambulance secures three-year financial contribution from energy company

HALO Air Ambulance announced on Friday morning a three-year commitment from Pembina Pipeline Corporation (Pembina) to support life-saving emergency medical services across Southern Alberta.

A total contribution of $120,000 from Pembina will support HALO in providing advanced life support and Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) to patients in rural, remote, and hard-to-reach communities throughout the region.

HALO, a charitable, community-supported organization, is reliant on partnerships with corporate leaders, municipalities, businesses, and donors to remain operational.

The organization does not receive full government funding for its operations, unlike many emergency response services.

“We are proud to continue our partnership with Pembina Pipeline Corporation, whose commitment through 2028 reflects not only confidence in HALO’s mission, but also a shared dedication to strengthening emergency response and investing in the health, safety, and well-being of the communities we collectively serve,” HALO Chief Executive Officer Paul Carolan said in a statement.

“Long-term partnerships like this help ensure HALO can continue being there when people need us most,” he added.

“Sustainable funding is critical to maintaining a service like HALO and allows us to remain mission-ready while continuing to deliver advanced critical care across Southern Alberta.”

The Chief Operating Officer of Pembina Pipeline Corporation, Jared Sprott, said in a statement that safety is more than a priority at Pembina.

“It is a core value we carry into every community where we live and work,” Sprott said

“HALO Air Ambulance is a vital lifeline across Southern Alberta, delivering emergency medical care when and where it is needed most,” he added.

“We are proud to stand behind HALO and the highly skilled teams who make this service possible, helping ensure they can continue responding quickly, reliably, and effectively when every second counts.”

HALO Air Ambulance has operated since 2007, serving a large geographical area, with donations helping them remain available to respond 365 days a year.

The Grant Fletcher HALO in the Hangar annual open house takes place on Saturday, June 13, at their facility at the Medicine Hat Regional Airport, 28 Les Little Way SW.

It includes a bacon breakfast with a side of pancakes for the first 500 guests, HALO helicopter tours, a chance to meet the crew, and bouncy castles. It starts at 8 a.m. and runs until 11:30 p.m.
