Calgary’s mayor says he doesn’t believe past and present city councillors are the focus of an ongoing police investigation.

At least three members of the past city council are involved in an R-C-M-P investigation.

The purpose of the investigation is unclear, but R-C-M-P say it was referred to them by Calgary police last October.

Mayor Jeromy Farkas says he believes that police were looking for evidence for an investigation into a third party.

He added he does not have more information than what is available to the public.

Sitting Ward 10 councillor Andre Chabot says some of his devices were seized by officers.

Former Ward 4 councillor Sean Chu’s lawyer says there were judicial orders “apparently” executed and that his client has been co-operative.

In a statement Wednesday evening, former mayor Jyoti Gondek told the Canadian Press, “I’ve been fully co-operative and respect the legal process. At the same time, this has been very invasive, and my lawyer and I will be reviewing it closely to ensure it was justified.”

Chabot, Chu and Gondek all served on the previous city council, as well as for varying terms in the past.
