Medicine Hat breaks 95-year-old temperature record on Wednesday, as several records fall in the Prairies
Temperatures across the Prairie provinces were higher than normal on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2026, as several records were broken, according to Environment Canada, including a 95-year-old one in Medicine Hat.
The city reached a high of 14.4°C, a full five degrees higher than the previous record of 9.4°C set all the way back in 1931.
Records in Medicine Hat have been kept since 1883.
Bow Island was even warmer at 16.7°C, bettering the mark set 20 years earlier in 2006 at 10.6°C.
