County of Forty Mile looking for Farmer of the Year

Dec 23, 2025 | 10:23 AM

The County of Forty Mile is accepting nominations for the Farmer of the Year for 2025.

A farmer within the county who excels in farming practices, management capabilities, conservation methods, and is involved in community organizations is an ideal candidate for the application.

The award is co-sponsored by the County of Forty Mile and the 40-Mile County Commentator, with nomination forms available online and at both offices.

To qualify, the farmer must be actively engaged in farming, reside in the county, derive their primary source of income from agriculture, and live on the farm.

The winner will be recognized by the BMO Farm Family Awards, given annually by the Calgary Stampede to recognize farm families in counties in southern Alberta who best typify the value of the family farmer to our rural communities and society in general.

This includes a special banquet for the winners at the Stampede.

The nomination deadline is December 31, 2025.

Forty Mile County did not receive a nomination in 2024.

The Lamberts Family Little Lake Farms, near Burdett, last won the award in 2023.
