It’s the final weekend before Christmas, and there are both festive and non-festive activities to take in, with snow in the forecast.

On Friday, a mix of sun and cloud with a 60 per cent chance of flurries early in the afternoon. Wind gusts up to 40 km/h. Temperature is expected to drop to -16 °C in the afternoon. Wind chill near -25 °C.

In the evening, partly cloudy with a low of -22 °C. Wind chill -23 °C this evening and -29 °C overnight, with a risk of frostbite.

On Saturday, a mix of sun and cloud with a 30 per cent chance of flurries late in the morning and in the afternoon. An expected high of -18 °C. Wind chill -29 °C in the morning and -22 °C in the afternoon. Risk of frostbite.

In the evening, clear with a low of -19 °C.

Sunday is sunny with a high of -8 °C.

🐄 Beef Pen Show at Stampede Grounds

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

The Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede’s Beef Pen Show and Cowboy Christmas Trade Show takes place on Friday and Saturday.

The doors open at the Cypress Centre Field House on Friday at 2 p.m., a chance to view cattle and check out a number of vendors.

Later on Friday, the SweetPro Canada Steak Sampling starts at 6 p.m., and the Pen Show follows at 7:30 p.m.

The trade show opens on Saturday at 9 a.m. and continues until 5 p.m. with the Pen Show.

🏒 Medicine Hat Cubs

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

The Medicine Hat Cubs, riding a 10-game winning streak, host a pair of home games this weekend at the Kinplex.

Friday night, the Coaldale Copperheads take on the Cubs.

Saturday, the opponent for Medicine Hat is the Carstar Okotoks Bisons.

Puck drop for both games is at 7:30 p.m.

🏒 Brooks Bandits

FRIDAY AND SUNDAY

The Brooks Bandits host a pair of Edmonton-area opponents this weekend, with the Spruce Grove Saints visiting Friday and the Sherwood Park Crusaders on Sunday.

The Bandits will wear special Christmas jerseys for both games, their final two before the Christmas break.

Puck drop Friday at 7 p.m., with Sunday’s matchup beginning at 4 p.m.

📽 Christmas movies at the Monarch

FRIDAY, SATURDAY, SUNDAY

The Monarch Theatre hosts a showing of the 2003 romantic comedy Love Actually on Friday.

Doors open at 6:15 p.m. with the movie starting at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, It’s a Wonderful Life is playing.

Doors open at 6:15 p.m. with the movie starting at 7 p.m.

On Sunday, it is the Monarch Theatre’s 114th Birthday Celebration and Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch will be showing during a matinee.

The 2018 animated version of the Christmas classic begins at 1 p.m. with the doors opening at 12:15 p.m.

Cookies from Kookie Bites will be on sale on Saturday for $5 each, with all proceeds donated to the Root Cellar.

Admission cost for each show is a $5 cash entry fee, and the concession will be two items for $5.

♣️ Game Night at the Kiwanis!

FRIDAY

The Kiwanis Centre hosts “Game Night at the Kiwanis!” every first and third Friday of the month.

Bring your board games, card games, or other tabletop games and enjoy the space to play.

If you bring only yourself, you can play one of the games kept in the centre or join in with someone else.

Entry is $5, with cans of pop and bags of chips available for $1.

Participants under 16 years of age are required to have a parent or a guardian present.

All funds stay with the Gas City Kiwanis Centre to help keep things running and in good repair.

The event runs from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday at 826 11th St. SE in Medicine Hat.

🎙 Comedian Brad Semotiuk at Elements

FRIDAY

Calgary-based comedian Scott Semotiuk will be at Elements Restaurant & Bar in the Copper Coulee Casino on Friday at 8 p.m. to perform at Comedy Night.

The show has a $10 cover charge.

🎸 Snakes & The Riot Annual Holiday Bash

FRIDAY

Snakes & The Riot host their annual holiday bash at the Casa Amigos Cantina in downtown Medicine Hat on Friday.

The Medicine Hat band takes the stage at 9 p.m.

🎭 The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe

SATURDAY

The Paperback Stage presents The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe at the Medicine Hat High School Performing Arts Centre on Saturday.

The magical world of Narnia is brought to the stage, following four siblings as they stumble through a wardrobe into a land trapped in eternal winter.

Showtimes are at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., which will also be the same times on Saturday, Dec. 27, and Wednesday, Dec. 31.

🎸 Music at the Corona

SATURDAY

Rock band K-MAG-YOYO will take the stage at the Corona Tavern in Medicine Hat on Saturday at 9 p.m.

🚂 CPKC Holiday Train

SUNDAY

The CPKC Holiday Train will be in Medicine Hat on Sunday, all lit up to enjoy.

Country artists Lanco and Tiera Kennedy are set to perform at each stop.

The estimated arrival is 3:15 p.m., with the event lasting about 30 minutes.

It is located at the CPKC station on North Railway Street.

Other stops in the area on Sunday include:

  • Maple Creek on Pacific Avenue from 1:45 p.m. to 2:15 p.m.
  • Tilley from 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on the southeast side of the crossing at Highway 867.
  • Brooks from 6:40 p.m. to 7:10 p.m. at First Avenue behind the Civic Building.

Food donations are encouraged for those who attend the event.

Since 1999, the event has raised more than $26 million and over 5.4 million pounds of food in Canada and the U.S.
