It’s the first weekend of December, and we can expect more snow according to Environment Canada’s forecast.

Friday is set to be cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of flurries. The temperature is expected to fall to -7 C, and a wind chill of -14 C in the afternoon. In the evening, periods of snow with 2 cm expected, a low of -11 C and a wind chill near -17 C.

Saturday has periods of light snow ending late in the morning, then cloudy. The temperature is expected to be near -11 C, and a wind chill near -18 C. The evening, cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of flurries and a low of -10 C.

On Sunday, expect sunny skies with a high of -1 C, and an evening low of zero C with clear skies.

FRIDAY

A Holiday Bake & Craft Sale is hosted at the River Ridge Seniors Village on Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Guests can browse unique creations from local craft vendors and enjoy sweet treats from the fundraiser bake sale.

It’s located at 4 River Ridge Drive NW, and everyone is welcome to join the festive fun.

🎄 Town of Redcliff Santa Claus Parade and Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

FRIDAY

The Santa Claus Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony is on Friday.

The parade begins at 6 p.m. on the corner of Broadway and Main Street and ends at Memorial Park for the Tree Lighting Ceremony at 7 p.m.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on site, you can enjoy a holiday hay ride with the Grinch, and bask in the warmth of a crackling fire while roasting s’mores and hot dogs, and drink a cup of hot chocolate, all free while supplies last.

Moonlight Madness and the Parkside School Christmas Market will give you Christmas shopping options until 8 p.m.

🪲 Beetlejuice Jr. Musical at Crescent Heights High School

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

The ghost with the most comes to the stage in Beetlejuice JR.

This Junior High production features talented grade 7-9 students bringing this exciting story to life!

Beetlejuice JR. is sure to leave audience members laughing and singing its catchy tunes for hours after they leave the theatre.

There will be a cash concession on site.

Purchase tickets for $18 through the CHHS webpage.

Performances at the CHHS Wahl Harker Theatre on Friday at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and on Saturday at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Doors will open 30 minutes before the performance.

Admission for each show is a $5 cash entry fee, and the concession will be two items for $5.

The exception is for the Paw Patrol Christmas movie, which is free for kids.

❄️ Shumka’s Ukrainian Nutcracker

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

On stage at the Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre is an annual Christmas tradition in Western Canada, Shumka’s Nutcracker blends the grace and lyrical nature of classical movement with the strength and power of Ukrainian character dance.

The cast of over 70 features Shumka dancers, youth from local dance schools, and the Clara’s Dream Choir.

Touted as “Canada’s Ukrainian Nutcracker,” the production is a folk ballet based on the timeless Christmas classic.

The production incorporates Ukrainian traditions, folk and character dance, grand orchestral versions of the legendary score with specially added compositions, and Ukrainian symbols woven into lavish sets and costumes.

Friday’s show is at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday’s is at 2 p.m.

An hour drive east of Medicine Hat, in Maple Creek, on Saturday, you will find the Cowtown Christmas.

Events start as early as 9 a.m. and run into the evening with fireworks at 7 p.m.

🐅 Medicine Hat Tigers Teddy Bear Toss Game

SATURDAY

The Medicine Hat Tigers host the Wenatchee Wild on Saturday night for the annual Teddy Bear Toss Game.

Fans are encouraged to bring new stuffed animals and/or winter gear like toques, mittens, and scarves, etc, to the game.

When the Tigers score their first goal of the night, fans can throw their items onto the ice in celebration.

Fans are asked to ensure that all items are bagged to keep moisture out and for easy pickup by those on the playing surface.

All donations will be split between the Medicine Hat & District Health Foundation, the Salvation Army, the Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter and the Medicine Hat News Santa Claus Fund.

Puck Drop is at 7 p.m.

Will Bryant will have the call on the Wild 94.5 radio broadcast, starting with the pre-game at 6:45 p.m.

SATURDAY

The Brooks Bandits also host their Teddy Bear Toss Game on Saturday night.

They welcome the Langley Rivermen to the Centennial Regional Arena.

⛪️ Christmas-themed afternoon at Church

SATURDAY

The St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Medicine Hat will have a reading of Charles Dickens’ classic tale “A Christmas Carol” on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

There will also be seasonal music by The Tartones.

There is no cost to attend, with an offering being taken for children at risk in West Africa.

The church is located at the corner of Second St. SE and Fifth Ave. SE.

🦌 Wetland Creatures in Winter

SUNDAY

The Medicine Hat Interpretive Program for Watershed Explorers is a new series for youth between the ages of six and 12 years old.

These six free programs will be covering a different aspect of the local watershed, from the creatures that call it home, to water quality, native plants and more.

Participants will earn a different badge for attending each program and will win a prize for collecting all 6.

These programs are made possible in part thanks to the Land Stewardship Centre of Canada.

The second session in this series about Wetland Creatures in Winter will take place on Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. in Kin Coulee Park.

On this guided walk, you will take a closer look at the animals that live in and near creeks, ponds and rivers and what they are doing during the coldest months of the year.

Registration is required for the free program as space is limited, and youths must be accompanied by an adult.

Participants are encouraged to dress for the weather.

SUNDAY

The Medicine Hat Lodge will host Santa’s Lobby Party on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The free event includes a festive afternoon of fun with the Santa Claus Fund.

Photos with Santa and his elf, Christmas crafts, a colouring contest, popcorn, hot chocolate and more.

Kids also eat free at R Kitchen with the purchase of one adult entrée.
