Randall Noble looks to bring open communication to Medicine Hat if elected as councillor

Open communication is something Randall Noble said he will represent if he is elected as a councillor with the City of Medicine Hat in the upcoming municipal election.

He said the last four years of council have shown him that a change in leadership and perspective is needed in the city.

“We need councillors and mayors who are going to listen to the citizens and look out for the best interest of Medicine Hat, and I feel like I can do that in every job I’ve had,” Noble said.

“I’ve had an open-door policy where staff, or even guests, can come and talk to me about their concerns or questions or ideas, and I would look to continue that into the role of councillor.”

The 32-year-old is a lifelong resident of Medicine Hat, minus a short time living in Edmonton for work.

“I’ve been in the hospitality industry in management positions for about 14 years in total, and then I went to health care for three years in an office management position, and now I’m in a management and marketing role back in the service industry,” Noble said.

“The health care industry definitely gave me a unique perspective, and I feel like between that and the service industry, it kind of gives me a wide range of knowledge that I could bring some suggestions to the city council on certain topics,” he added.

“I feel as a city councillor, you are servicing the city. You’re listening to your customers, which are the citizens of Medicine Hat, and I feel like that’s kind of been lost the last four years. I would like to really help restore that trust, openness, communication between the citizens and the city council.”

Noble has four main priorities if elected, with the first being a tax freeze.

“We can’t just keep raising taxes on the citizens and have nothing to show for it,” Noble said.

“We need to have a tax freeze until we can come up with a gradual plan that works for citizens and the city, and with a plan that’s also showing that we’re actually using those tax dollars to benefit the citizens and the growth of Medicine Hat.”

Another priority for Noble is business growth and support.

“We need to cut a lot of the red tape for businesses wanting to open in Medicine Hat,” Noble said.

“From what I’ve been hearing, lots of delays and waits, and a lot of people don’t want to wait. It’s a very expensive process, opening a business and waiting and waiting just adds to those expenses,” he added.

“We need to support our local businesses that are open too. They are the backbone of any community, just as much as any big corporation or business.”

Infrastructure is another priority for Noble.

“We need to focus on repairing roads, sidewalks, and maintaining landscape of the city, because that also plays a factor into business growth,” Noble said.

“People want to come to a city that they can be proud of, that’s attractive. We need to focus on that instead of narrowing roads and adding traffic circles, is my view on that.”

Noble said we also need to maintain the safety of the streets and communities, and parks.

“We need to support our vulnerable population. There’s not a lot we can do at a civic level. However, we can work with the non-profits within Medicine Hat to come up with solutions,” Noble said.

“We need to reach out to our provincial and federal governments for support for these citizens as well.”

Noble said he would work hard for the people of Medicine Hat.

“If you want a candidate that’s going to be hardworking, goes to work for you every day to make the city better with open communication, even if I don’t know the answer, I will get back to you with the answer,” Noble said.

“A vote for me is a vote for you. I really want to restore the voice of the citizens in city council.”
