Sep 16, 2025 | 9:47 PM

Cypress County council approved the 2026 budget on Tuesday with a surplus forecast.

A statement from the county boasts consistent tax rates, while also seeing long-term investments in infrastructure and community services with a responsible, forward-thinking budget.

Several key projects were highlighted in the $43.6 million of expenses.

Upgrades to the Irvine Sportsplex, increased investment in economic development, and more than $1 million in community programs.

“The 2026 Budget continues to invest in the priorities that matter most to our residents: safe and reliable infrastructure, sustainable growth, and strong, vibrant communities,” said Reeve Dan Hamilton in a statement.

“We recognize the importance of balancing these priorities with prudent financial management to keep Cypress County affordable for families, farmers, and businesses alike.”

An increased tax base has lead to projected income rising to $51.9 million, with $8.6 million allocated to reserves for capital projects and other uses.

The statement from the county highlighted the council’s approach to planning for the future by setting aside funds for reserves, prioritizing infrastructure replacement, and investing in economic development.

It added that the county is ensuring that growth is sustainable, and services remain reliable for years to come.

The county has kept residential tax rates steady since 2022, while overall rates remain below the 20th percentile among Alberta municipalities.

The full budget is now available on the county website with copies also available at the county office.
